Our sustainability efforts: green, clean, transparent

A cleaner way to produce renewable fuels

In order to succeed, energy transition businesses need to be environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable. Global Clean Energy is one of the few energy transition businesses out there that legitimately accomplishes all three.

Environmental

A water-saving crop for dryland farmers

A water-saving crop for dryland farmers

At the core of our business is camelina feedstock, a short-season crop that can grow on idle farmland on less water than annual row crops. Camelina has a low impact on soil moisture and can be seeded and harvested with farmers’ already-owned conventional equipment and logistics assets, making it a perfect additive crop for farmers with no additional investment.

Focus on food security

Focus on food security

Global Clean energy is focused on breaking the dependence on food products to produce renewable fuels. By using camelina, a nonfood crop grown on fallow farmland between crop cycles, we ensure that food is not displaced, driving up food costs and driving down food availability. We focus on producing ultra-low carbon renewable fuels to reduce the impacts of climate change while ensuring food security isn’t disrupted. By producing on existing acres without impacting food production, camelina relieves pressure on existing food land and contributes to a reduction in land use change that might otherwise occur.

Minimizing our carbon footprint at every step

Minimizing our carbon footprint at every step

Our commitment to reducing emissions doesn't stop at producing renewable fuels. We are committed to lowering local and greenhouse gas emissions throughout our production chain, using energy-efficient rail cars to transport our feedstock from farm to refinery. Moving freight by rail instead of truck reduces transportation related greenhouse gas emissions by up to 75 percent. At Global Clean Energy, our unique, integrated farm-to-fuel platform utilizes big data analytics to give clear visibility into every aspect of our business. Detailed data about sourcing, logistics, and our extraction and refining processes make it possible to measure and validate the ultra-low-carbon intensity of our fuels. Our priority is to optimize the entire production chain to improve air quality, reduce costs, and increase efficiency.

Producing Ultra-low Carbon Fuels

Producing Ultra-low Carbon Fuels

Global Clean Energy’s camelina varieties have the lowest carbon intensity of any commercial crop in the market and through carbon capture and sequestration and streamlining our operations we have a visible horizon of bringing that number below zero.

Social

Sourcing from farmers

Sourcing from farmers

By sourcing directly from farmers, we can control the quality and priority of camelia production, thus removing intermediaries as well as uncertainties regarding supply limitations. Our corporate strategy for producing nonfood-based feedstocks from our proprietary varieties of Camelina allows farmers to improve total farm economics through better asset utilization while advancing the drive to produce “zero-carbon” fuels.

Governance

Corporate governance and sustainability
