Jatropha "Energy Farm" Carbon
Offset Project
  • Global Clean Energy Holdings (GCEH), a Los Angeles based Bio-Feedstock company, is currently developing "Energy Farms" in Latin America by planting a tree called the Jatropha Curcus. Jatropha trees, which are indigenous to Latin America, grow an inedible fruit that contains seeds very high in oil content. This oil is then refined into a clean burning bio diesel fuel. The trees have a life expectancy of 30-60 years and beginning 18 months after planting, the fruit and seeds can be harvested quarterly.

  • GCEH Energy Farms of Jatropha convert and store CO2 and offset the use of fossils fuels, reducing carbon emissions: 1) As the trees grow, they collect and store (sequester) CO2 by natural photosynthesis within the branches and roots of the tree.

    2) The Jatropha trees convert harmful CO2 from the atmosphere to grow and produce seed oil and biomass which when burned, emits the captured CO2 back into the atmosphere. Therefore, the process is deemed carbon negative. When Jatropha oil is burned instead of oil from fossil fuels sources (which liberates new CO2 into the atmosphere) a carbon offset is created.

  • Sample Volumes of Jatropha Carbon Offsets available:

    - An average major league baseball game emits 440 metric tons of CO2 per home game. 81 home games add up to 35,640 metric tons of CO2 to be offset (includes all lights, fan automobiles, energy to operate facility).

    - This Carbon will be offset over a 10 year period, by planting 605,000 Jatropha Trees today. NOTE: Our newest Energy Farm in the Yucatan has over 4,000,000 planted Jatropha Trees.

    - Driving a standard sized car 12,000 Miles per year at 20mpg emit approximately 6 tonnes of CO2. This would be offset by 102 Jatropha Trees.

    - A cross country roundtrip flight emits approximately .3 metric tones of CO2 which would be offset by 5 Jatropha Trees.
